It’s been a while since the era of the incredibly slow dial-up modems and excruciatingly buggy operating systems, yet still there are problems with slow computers. They are frustrating, time consuming and yeah, often you want to throw your computer out of a window. US adults waste 4.1 days a year waiting for slow computers to catch up, that’s 16 minutes a day. That doesn’t seem like a lot, but our time is fleeting and precious. 50% of those surveyed stated they were aware they needed more exercise but felt they didn’t have the time to do it, and slow computers are part of the reason we are wasting our time. 37% of people said they felt more drained after waiting for their computer than they would have done if they had worked out. So, what can we do? Well, if you need or enjoy using your computer then you need to figure out why it’s slow and fix it – you can do this by cleaning and decluttering your software, and by installing better operating systems and browsers. If you’re not that bothered about being on your computer then simply do something else; go for a walk, read a book or do something else that you enjoy more than waiting for your dumb computer.
